5 savoury ways to get more protein without a shaker

None of these require a shaker bottle. Most take under 20 minutes.

Protein tracking usually turns into a second job: a shake before the gym, a bar in the bag, a tub of cottage cheese you're not excited about. The easier fix is almost always hiding in meals you're already making. You just have to make them carry a bit more. Here are five that do, without changing what's on the plate.

1. Stir it into the soup pot

A savoury protein seasoning dissolves the same way a stock cube does: it just needs heat and a minute of stirring. Added in the last five minutes of cooking, it thickens the broth slightly and carries whatever flavour it's built around (tomato, smoke, chilli) straight into the base. You taste the soup, not the add-in.

2. Fold it into scrambled eggs

Whisked in with the raw egg before it hits the pan, a protein seasoning dissolves completely and seasons the eggs at the same time, so it's doing two jobs instead of one. This is the fastest of the five: it adds no extra steps to a dish you're probably already making for breakfast.

3. Thicken the pasta sauce with it

Tomato and cheese sauces both benefit from something that thickens as it cooks, which is exactly what a starch-and-protein blend does in a hot pan. Stir it in once the sauce is simmering, give it two minutes to dissolve, and it quietly raises the protein per bowl without changing the texture you're used to.

4. Season the rice as it cooks

Added to the cooking water or stirred through after, a savoury seasoning blend behaves like a bouillon powder: it's absorbed into the grain rather than sitting on top of it. Good for meal-prepped rice bowls where you want every portion to carry the same boost.

5. Mix it into a curry base

Curries already lean on a thickened, spiced base, which is the easiest possible environment for a savoury protein powder to disappear into. Added with the other spices before the liquid goes in, it builds into the sauce rather than floating on top of it.

All five of these are built into how Pinch is designed to be used: soup, eggs, pasta, rice, curry. Browse recipes →

The common thread

Every one of these works for the same reason: the protein goes in with the cooking, not after it. That's the difference between a shaker you have to remember and a seasoning you already reach for.
